CHANDIGARH:Vinay Chaudhary's 124-run innings put hosts Amritsar in lead against Chandigarh on the second day of Punjab Inter-District Championship for Katoch Shield at the Gandhi Grounds today.

Vinay Chaudhary's 124-run innings put hosts Amritsar in lead against Chandigarh on the second day of Punjab Inter-District Championship for Katoch Shield at the Gandhi Grounds today. Chaudhary was also involved in a 171-run partnership with Kamal Passi (61) for the ninth wicket to help Amritsar reach a total of 475 runs before the team got all out. 

Resuming their day on 304/8, overnight batsmen Rohan Marwaha and Chaudhary added 30 runs to the total when the partnership was broken by Arpit Singh. Marwaha scored 37 runs off 57 balls including four boundaries. Thereafter, Chaudhary was joined by Passi and the duo raised 171 runs for the ninth wicket to post 475. Chaudhary scored 124 off 217 balls including 14 boundaries before falling prey to Karanveer. 

Passi, in the meantime, was joined by Ashwani but the latter was cleaned up by Karanveer before he could open his account. Passi was left unbeaten on 61 off 220 balls including four boundaries and a six. Arpit Singh was the pick of the bowlers for Chandigarh as he claimed 4/123 while Bahgmender Singh and Karanveer claimed three wickets each. 

In reply, Chandigarh closed the day on 84/2 in 22 overs. Opener Bhagmender and Manan Vohra raised 70 runs for the opening wicket. 

But Bhagmender was cleaned up by Chaudhary on 54 off 59 balls including two boundaries and seven sixes. Vohra was joined by Talwinder Singh but the latter failed to open his account as Abhishek claimed him on the very first ball of his over.  

 Karanveer (9) then joined Vohra (20) and the duo remained unbeaten. Chaudhary and Abhishek claimed one wicket each.

Jalandhar ahead

against hosts Patiala   

Resuming at 158/5, hosts Patiala were bundled out for 277 runs on the second day against Jalandhar at the Dhruv Pandove Stadium. In reply, Jalandhar ended their day on 257/3 to be in a commanding position. Vikramdit Ghuman and Anmol Malhotra added only two runs to Patiala's total as the former was cleaned up by Subek Gill on 7. 

Thereafter, Malhotra was joined by Karan Kaila and the duo steadied the innings with a 87-run contribution to take the total to 247. Malhotra was claimed by Rahul Sharma on 55 off 65 balls including six boundaries and a six. Kaila was the other main scorer with his innings of 57 off 78 balls studded with five boundaries and a six. He remained unbeaten as Sandeep Sharma (0), Rajwinder Singh (4) and Sukwinder Singh (2) failed to contribute much to the total. 

For Jalandhar, Subek Gill and Harry Barwal claimed three wickets each while Raghu Sharma claimed two wickets. 

 In reply, Jalandhar started with Mansab Gill and Pragat Singh and the duo took the total to 100 runs. Pragat became Rajwinder Singh's victim after scoring 53 off 75 balls, including three boundaries and four sixes. Rajwinder struck again as he claimed Gill on 48 off 95 balls, including six boundaries and a six. 

Thereafter, Taruwar Kohli and Himanshu Sharmar raised 110-run partnership for the third wicket. Ikjot broke the partnership by claiming Himanshu on 63. 

Kohli posted an unbeaten 63 off 150 balls, including six boundaries and a six along with Abhishek Gupta, who left on 29 off 39 balls including five boundaries, to close the day at 257/3.  Ikjot claimed  one icket of the match.
