CHANDIGARH:Tamil Nadu’s M Anjani stunned sixth seed Suryanshi Tanwar of Haryana in straight sets to enter the girls’ U-16 quarterfinals in the CLTA-AITA Super Series Tennis Tournament here on Tuesday.

Tamil Nadu’s M Anjani stunned sixth seed Suryanshi Tanwar of Haryana in straight sets to enter the girls’ U-16 quarterfinals in the CLTA-AITA Super Series Tennis Tournament here on Tuesday. Anjani won 7-6(3) 6-4. 

Haryana’s Khushi Kharab upset third seed Kavya Khirwar of Delhi 7-5 6-3, while Telangana’s Aarni Reddy Yellu surprised fifth seed Lakshmi Gowda of Delhi 6-1 6-0. 

Disha Sehrawat of Haryana overcame Punjab’s Pawan Kaur 6-2 0-6 6-2, while eighth seed Anjali Rathi of Haryana edged out Chandigarh’s Jyotsana Yadav 6-2 6-1. Maithili Pravin Mothe rallied from a set down to beat Haryana’s Harnoor Sidhu 4-6 6-1 6-3.

Second seed Sanvi Ahluwalia of Delhi registered a 6-3 6-0 win over Uttar Pradesh’s Hannah Nagpal in the pre-quarterfinals.

Hannah, though, moved into the girls’ U-18 quarters after beating Haryana’s Priyanka Jakhar 6-2 6-4. 

Vanshika in quarters 

Second seed Vanshika Choudhary of Uttar Pradesh registered a 6-1 6-3 win over Aarni Reddy, while third seed Sanya Singh of Haryana packed off Chandigarh’s Maitreyi Phogat 6-1 6-0. 

Fifth seed Sanvi Ahluwalia of Delhi edged out Khushi Kharab 6-3 6-3. Sixth seed Gaurisa Dabral of Delhi humbled Tanushri Pandey of Uttar Pradesh 6-1 6-3, while Haryana’s Anjali Rathi downed Saniya Manoj Masand 6-2 7-5. 

Suryanshi Tanwar defeated seventh seed Rupal Kharab 6-2 6-1 in the pre-quarterfinals, while Punjab’s Harleen Kaur overcame Maithili Pravin Mothe 7-6(6) 6-0.

Ajay moves ahead

Top seed Ajay Malik stretched his unbeaten run with a 7-6(6) 6-4 win over Ajay Kundu in the boys’ U-18 pre-quarterfinals. 

Second seed Sushant Dabas recorded a 6-2 6-4 win over Ajay Singh, while third seed Krishan Hooda drubbed Shashank Narde 6-0 6-1. Fourth seed Nitin Jaipal Singh of Haryana downed Delhi’s Yash Chaurasia 7-6(6) 6-3.

Sixth seed Shashikant Rajput had an easy outing against Chandigarh’s Abhay Mohan. Rajput won 6-0 6-0. 

Seventh seed Chirag Duhan of Haryana dispatched Bhupender Dahiya 6-0 6-2, while Yogee Panwar beat Siddharth Ravidutt Jadli of Maharashtra 7-6(5) 6-1.

Sushant stays on course

In the boys’ U-16 category, top seed Sushant Dabas registered a 6-2 6-2 win over Sukhpreet Singh Jhoje in the pre-quarterfinals. 

Second seed Chirag Duhan of Haryana trounced Chandigarh’s Sarthak Gandhi 6-1 6-2, while Punjab’s Navya Verma came back from a set down to upset fifth seed Rishi Jalota 1-6 7-6(2) 6-4. 

Sixth seed Vansh Yadav of Uttar Pradesh ousted Chandigarh’s Aditya Chauhan 6-1 6-1 and Haryana’s Divanshu Hooda packed off Maharashtra’s Lakshya Gupta 6-1 6-2. 

Seventh seed Yogee Panwar of Haryana moved into the quarterfinals with a 6-2 6-3 win over Aryan Thakur, while eighth seed Kanishk Pal of Delhi humbled Maharashtra’s Girish Dadasaheb Chougule 6-3 6-3. 

The quarterfinal matches will be played on Wednesday.
