In a major development in the 10-year-old’s rape case, the UT police today arrested the second accused in the case, younger brother of accused Kul Bahadur who was arrested earlier by the police for raping the minor. Both accused arrested are the victim’s maternal uncles.

The second accused allegedly raped the minor between November 2016 and March 2017.

The victim revealed the name of her maternal uncle Shankar after the DNA report of the accused, Kul Bahadur, who was arrested earlier, did not match with that of the child delivered by her.

The police questioned Shankar for several hours before arresting him on a charge of raping the victim. The police will now move another application in the court for conducting Shankar’s DNA test.

The rape incident came to light in July when the girl complained of stomachache. She was taken to the hospital, where her mother was told that she was pregnant. The girl’s mother came to know from her daughter that her maternal uncle Kul Bahadur had raped her. The police had registered a case at the Sector 39 police station and the maternal uncle was arrested.

The 10-year-old had told the court that she was repeatedly raped by her maternal uncle. The victim, whose abortion plea was turned down by the Supreme Court, had delivered a baby on August 17. The case took a mysterious turn after it was found that the DNA of Kul Bahadur did not match with that of the newborn.

The police sought permission from the court to further probe the case and also moved another plea for conducting the DNA test of Kul Bahadur again. The police counselled the victim, who revealed Shankar’s name.
