Four unidentified miscreants took away a bank ATM containing around Rs 9 lakh from Bhabhat village of Zirakpur on the night intervening Friday and Saturday. The machine was recovered in a damaged condition from near Kambali village under the Sohana police station today with the cash missing.

Sources said a gang of four masked miscreants entered the ATM booth of the Central Bank of India after locking the security guard in a cabin nearby, uprooted the machine and took it away. The exact loss was yet to be ascertained, the sources added.

Investigation Officer Harpreet Singh said the machine was uprooted easily as its screws were loose.

“We are scanning the CCTV footage of nearby localities and roads leading to the ATM branch to identify the thieves and the vehicle used to ferry the machine from the spot,” police officials said.

On the complaint of Prabh Dayal, the ATM security guard, a case has been registered under Sections 457, 380 and 342 of the IPC against all four miscreants at the Zirakpur police station.
