Chandigarh, November 15

The Registration and Licensing Authority (RLA) is all set to start a  new camera-based innovative driving testing system (IDTS)   that will ensure a technology-oriented assessment of the driving quality of licence-seekers. The new system  will  also  improve  the  standard  of the driving test  and end the   possibility of  human err.

Sources  in the  RLA  said the  system would be  implemented  within two months. Officials of the Central Institute of Road Transport (CIRT), Pune,  which has been  assigned the  task, has almost completed  the project.  The system will be installed at Traffic Park in Sector 23 and will cost  approximately Rs 2  crore.

An RLA official  said the work of  laying the track for it  would start  soon. In order to   complete the  project, the existing  facility will be shifted to the the Industrial Training Institute, Sector 26, for a month. Under the system a special track will be developed and cameras will be installed along it.

Applicants’ performance will be recorded on a camera. The marks based on the performance  will be given to applicants automatically without the  human intervention. The   system  will  ensure that people with sound knowledge of traffic rules and adequate training get the right to drive.  — TNS
