CHANDIGARH: Three miscreants kidnapped a businessman in his Mercedes SUV at gunpoint from Sector 9 and released him near Elante Mall after taking a ransom of Rs 3 lakh and fled with his SUV late tonight.

Three miscreants kidnapped a businessman in his Mercedes SUV at gunpoint from Sector 9 and released him near Elante Mall after taking a ransom of Rs 3 lakh and fled with his SUV late tonight. The SUV was later found abandoned on the road towards the Industrial Area, Phase II, near the Kali Bari light point. Sources said the miscreants asked him to pay pay a ransom of Rs 3 lakh. The victim then asked his friend to bring the money.

The sources said the victim, Harpreet, a resident of Sector 10, was kidnapped at gunpoint from outside a gym in Sector 9. The victim’s father owns Gurdev Studio in Sector 17, Chandigarh.

The miscreants then drove across the city.

The police were informed about the incident, who rushed to the spot. UT SSP Jagdale Nilambari Vijay also reached the spot.

Police teams posted at exit points in the city were alerted about the incident, apart from PCR vehicles.

The police of neighbouring states were also informed about the incident. The statement of the complainant was recorded. No police official was available for comments. An investigation has been initiated by the police.
