Chandigarh, June 24

A black Bullet rider is on the police radar. The miscreant has been committing snatchings in the city and has struck thrice in the past five days.

The accused, who perpetrates the crime single-handedly, snatched a purse from a woman in Sector 21 on Sunday night.

Earlier, the biker had snatched a mobile phone from a woman at the Sector 36/37/41/42 roundabout on June 20. The very next day, he sped away after snatching a mobile phone from another woman in Sector 21. He struck again on June 22 when he snatched a mobile phone in Sector 34.

Police officials said police station and PCR staff had been asked to keep an eye on those riding black Bullet alone. A Crime Branch official said they suspected that the accused was committing snatchings on a stolen motorcycle. “Bullet are rarely used for a crime like snatching as it is tough to manoeuvre in case the victim resists,” the cop added.

Miscreants usually ride Pulsar motorcycles and Activa scooters to commit snatching as it is relatively easy to escape on such vehicles.

The police said on May 31 and June 3, two snatching incidents were reported in Sectors 32 and 35. In both incidents, one person, who was riding a motorcycle, had snatched purses from two women. However, the victims had failed to identify the make of the motorcycle.

It is suspected that the same snatcher was involved in these two incidents as well.

Back-to-back snatchings

  • Two more snatching incidents were reported from the city on Sunday night, including one by a miscreant riding a Bullet motorcycle.
  • Sources said a person riding a black Bullet motorcycle snatched a purse from a woman in Sector 21 around 9.10 pm. Earlier, two motorcycle-borne miscreants had sped away after snatching a purse from a woman near the Sector 33 market around 8.45 pm. Sources said the accused were riding an Apache motorcycle.
  • With the two fresh cases, the total number of snatchings in the city this year reached 112. Most of these have been reported from areas falling under the jurisdiction of the Sector 34 police station.
