Boy goes missing from Snehalaya

CHANDIGARH: A 12-year-old boy, an inmate of Snehalaya, a shelter home for destitute and abandoned children in Maloya, has gone missing, exposing chinks in the security at the shelter home.

A 12-year-old boy, an inmate of Snehalaya, a shelter home for destitute and abandoned children in Maloya, has gone missing, exposing chinks in the security at the shelter home.

According to the police, the complainant in the case, Narender Kumar Rana, a warden at Snehalaya, reported that the inmate had gone missing from the home. The inmate went missing on January 20. Police sources said the inmate managed to flee from the shelter home after giving the security the slip.

A case under Section 363 (kidnapping) has been registered at the Sector 39 police station.

This is not the first time that children have gone missing from Snehalaya. In the past, similar incidents have been reported. Over 10 cases have been reported in the past few years.

Past incidents 

  • September 27, 2016: Four boys fled from Snehalaya.
  • June 14: Four juveniles fled.
  • Nov 22, 2015: A 13-year-old girl went missing from Snehalaya.
  • July 24: An inmate, who was a resident of Indira Colony, Mani Majra, went missing from the Home.
  • June 18: Two boys fled from the Home in the cover of darkness.
