Chandigarh: The car, in which a girl was “forcibly” taken from outside a PU gate on Tuesday, has been found to be registered in Gurgaon. The police said the owner of the vehicle was being traced. Meanwhile, nobody has approached the police with the complaint of a missing person. A PU employee, who was crossing from PU gate No. II, had seen two youths having an argument with the girl and thrashing her. The employee said the youths had then forcefully taken the victim in a car bearing the Haryana number and fled the spot. The police were informed about the incident and an investigation was initiated. The police said a team had been sent to Gurgaon to verify the address and trace the vehicle owner. “We have not received any complaint regarding any girl missing from the PU or nearby sectors,” said a police official.

Bag containing jewellery stolen

Chandigarh: A bag containing gold and diamond jewellery was stolen by unknown persons from a house in Sector 36 here. Complainant Ashwani Thakur told the police that an unknown person entered his house after breaking open the locks and stole a bag containing jewellery from an almirah. The police said the bag contained three diamond rings and other gold ornaments. A case has been registered.

Ilegal structures razed

Chandigarh: The Estate Office, on Wednesday, razed more than 60 illegal structures in Dhanas made by scrap dealers. The Estate Office continued its drive for the second consecutive day on Wednesday. The Estate Office removed them as they were allegedly carrying out commercial activities on the agricultural land against the Periphery Act. TNS

3 booked for thrashing man

Mohali: The Mohali police have booked three persons for allegedly assaulting and snatching a mobile phone from a youth on Tuesday night in Kumbra. The accused have been identified as Akash and Jaggu, residents of Kumbra village and Gurpreet Singh, a resident of Nanu Majra village. On June 18, Sukhwinder Singh, the victim was taken to a deserted area where he was assaulted. A case was registered under Section 379 B, and 34 of the IPC. However, the police are yet to make any arrest.—TNS

Case against immigration agents

Kharar: The Kharar police have registered a case against under Sections 406, 420 and 120B of the IPC and relevant provisions of the Immigration Act against Kesar Singh Dhaliwal, a resident of Ludhiana, and Devinder Singh a resident of Kharar for allegedly duping the two complainants of Rs 30 lakh on the pretext of arranging Canada visa for them. The complaint was lodged by Gagandeep Singh of Sangrur and Jaswinder Singh of Barnala. The complainants told the police that they paid Rs 15 lakh each to the accused for Canada visas.—OC

MC tows away 13 vehicles

Chandigarh: The Enforcement team of Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh,  continued  its drive on Wednesday to remove illegal parking of vehicles from footpath and grounds in Sector 17. The team removed 12 four- wheelers, and one motorcycle. Keeping in view the road safety measures, the MCC has started special drives to remove illegal parking of vehicles from road sides and grounds from June 18. Special teams of enforcement wing have been formed to remove these illegal parking throughout the city.—TNS

Drive against noise pollution

Fatehgarh Sahib: Under the 'Tandrust Punjab' mission, the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) in collaboration with district administration launched a campaign against the sound pollution being caused due to pressure horns and cracker sound emitting bikes in the district. The officials laid nakas at various points in the towns of the district. Hemant Kumar, in-charge Traffic police, said 80 vehicles were found installed with pressure horns and motorcycles with modified silencers. He said all these violators were challaned.—OC

3 held for manhandling cops

Zirakpur: The local police have arrested three persons for manhandling a constable and tearing his uniform here on Tuesday, while three of their accomplices fled the spot.  The incident occurred on Tuesday evening, near Gazipur road intersection, where the police had laid a naka and was checking the vehicles.The accused Jonny Kumar of Bishanpura village, Zirakpur, along with his five accomplices came and asked the police party to show them an order for putting up a naka here. The six accused got into an argument, following which the police arrested Jonny, Buta Singh, and Jagwinder Singh.—OC

Tribune union seeks wage boards

Chandigarh: The Tribune Trust Employees' Union on Wednesday demanded constitution of new wage boards for fixing and revising the wages rates for working journalists and non-journalists in newspapers at the earliest. Union chief Manmohan Moudgil has sent a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Santosh Kumar Gangwar in this regard.—TNS
