MOHALI: A delegation comprising Prof Raghuram Rao, Director, NIPER; Prof Inder Pal Singh, Dr Abhay H Pande and two students Purvi and Sanjay from NIPER, Mohali, visited Shizuoka University, Japan, on an invitation from Prof Enoch Y Park, Director, Research Institute of Green Science and Technology, Shizuoka University, for participation in the "Fourth International Symposium towards the Future of Advanced Researches'' in Shizuoka University on March 6.

MOHALI: A delegation comprising Prof Raghuram Rao, Director, NIPER; Prof Inder Pal Singh, Dr Abhay H Pande and two students Purvi and Sanjay from NIPER, Mohali, visited Shizuoka University, Japan, on an invitation from Prof Enoch Y Park, Director, Research Institute of Green Science and Technology, Shizuoka University, for participation in the "Fourth International Symposium towards the Future of Advanced Researches' in Shizuoka University on March 6. The delegation met Shizuoka University president Kiyoshi Ishii to discuss the possibility of future collaborative researches as well as faculty and student exchanges between NIPER-Mohali and Shizuoka University. Plagiarism discussed at PU

CHANDIGARH: The Dr SS Bhatnagar University Institute of Chemical Engineering and Technology, Panjab University, organised a lecture on "Plagiarism", here on Monday. The keynote speaker was Prof SK Kansal, a professor of chemical engineering at the PU. Prof Kansal in his lecture discussed various types of plagiarism, strategies to avoid plagiarism, consequences and helpful suggestions. A quiz was also organised in which participants had to detect the incidents of plagiarism and correctional measures. Prof Sanchita Chauhan, chairperson, UICET, highlighted the need of awareness about plagiarism and its consequences. TNS

Award for PU Professor

Chandigarh: Prof RK Pathak, Department of Anthropology, Panjab University, has been awarded the Dr Panchanan Mitra Memorial Lectureship award of the Asiatic Society, Kolkata, for his outstanding contributions in the field of Anthropology, here on Monday. The Asiatic Society was founded in 1784, which confers this award on an eminent scientist in the field of anthropological sciences. Under this award, Prof Pathak would be delivering a lecture at Kolkata on March 15. He has held many important academic and administrative positions at Panjab University. TNS

MCM teacher gets Rs 9 lakh grant

Chandigarh: Dr Madhuri Tanaji Patil, Assistant Professor, Chemistry Department of MCM DAV College for Women, Sector 36, has been granted approval by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Ministry of Science and Technology, for a project under the Women Scientist Scheme A. Titled "Synthesis and structure-property relationship studies of surfactants containing natural structural motif inositol as hydrophilic head group", the project aims to synthesise surfactants that will be used for controlled dry delivery of some existing as well as new drug molecules. Dr Patil will receive a financial grant of Rs 9.25 lakh for a period of three years. TNS

YPS holds investiture

Patiala: An investiture was held at Yadavindra Public School here on Monday. Besides the school staff, students and their parents also took part in it. School director Sanjiv Varma appointed Mehakdeep Singh as the head boy and Chhavi Kohli as the head girl. Their deputies and house captains were also sworn-in on the occasion. The director congratulated the students and exhorted them to become better leaders for tomorrow. 

Farewell party 

Students of Class IX at Lucky Public School, Patiala, bade farewell to those of Class X. During a farewell party, they danced. Nitin Singla and Neetu Oberai were honoured as Mr & Miss Lucky Public, respectively. 

Varsity prof on UGC panel

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has appointed Gurmeet Singh Maan, Director, Centre for Advanced Media Studies (CAMS) at Punjabi University, as a member of its advisory committee for the UGC-SAP (DRS-III), Department of Communication and Journalism, Padmavati Mahila Visvavidyalayam (SPMVV), Tirupati. “The Committee will advise on proper utilisation of already approved funds under the programme and suggest re-appropriations, as may be necessary, keeping in view the progress of the work at the department,” said Maan.
