The Capitol Complex has emerged as the most likely venue for the International Yoga Day event, scheduled to be held in the City Beautiful on June 21, which will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Sources said a team of officers from the Ministry of AYUSH had recommended the Capitol Complex as the most suited place to hold the mega event and had sent its recommendation to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) for approval.

The team of officers, led by Ajit M Sharan, Secretary, Ministry of AYUSH, and officials of the Administration visited various places to finalise the venue recently. The Capitol Complex has been suggested for holding the event as it is synonymous with the City Beautiful and will also cause minimum inconvenience to the people since it is located at a secluded place.

The PMO has already conveyed to the Administration to ensure that no inconvenience is caused to the public. With the open hand and three main buildings — the Secretariat, the Legislative Assembly and the Punjab and Haryana High Court — in the background, the yoga event, with the Prime Minister in attendance, will give international recognition to the Capitol Complex, which is vying for the world heritage tag with seven other countries where works of Le Corbusier exist.
