Car driver held for breaking wheel clamps

CHANDIGARH: A motorist was held by the Chandigarh Police after he tried to make way with his car that was clamped by the traffic police for wrong parking in Sector 43.

A motorist was held by the Chandigarh Police after he tried to make way with his car that was clamped by the traffic police for wrong parking in Sector 43. The wheel clamps were broken during the attempt.

According to the police, Head Constable Varinder Singh, posted in the traffic wing, complained that a Santro car, bearing a Haryana number, was wrongly parked outside the ISBT in Sector 43 following which the wheels of the car were clamped and a sticker of wrong parking was pasted on the front windscreen.

The traffic staff then left from the spot. Later, the police came to know that the motorists tried to make way with the wheel clamps following which the clamps got damaged. The police reached the spot and the driver, Abhishek Jain, a native of Mullana district, was arrested.

A case under Section 3 of Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, 1984, has been registered against the accused at the Sector 36 police station. It’s not the first time that motorists have tried to make way with the wheel clamps. There have been instances in the past as well when the wheel clamps were damaged after motorists either tried to break these or drive with the clamps on.
