Mohali, June 19

Three mechanical engineering students from the Chandigarh Group of Colleges (CGC), Landran, claim to have invented a biometric anti-theft vehicle security system, which “will allow car owners to lock/unlock their vehicles using fingerprints.”

The system, which is based on radio frequency identification, will work through a fingerprint scanner built into the car key.

‘Ultimate Vehicle Security (UVS)’ system consists of fingerprint identification and manual keypad system inbuilt into the car key and the vehicle, which can be used to open the four-wheeler. The hardware in the vehicle’s system would detect the fingerprint and authenticate it using the fingerprint scanner. If the user’s fingerprints match those stored in the car’s database, it will automatically open the car and help switch on the ignition. The system can be activated and used using owner’s mobiles as well. The team has already filed the patent for the same.
