Chandigarh, Asr share points

CHANDIGARH:Hosts Chandigarh and Amritsar shared a point each after rain played a spoilsport on the second and final day of their Katoch Shield match at the Sector 16 Cricket Stadium here on Thursday.

Chandigarh, June 28

Hosts Chandigarh and Amritsar shared a point each after rain played a spoilsport on the second and final day of their Katoch Shield match at the Sector 16 Cricket Stadium here on Thursday.

Not even a single ball could be bowled on the second day of the match. Yesterday, Amritsar had scored 178/3 in their first innings after being put in to bat by Chandigarh skipper Uday Kaul.

3 points for Mohali

Mohali, meanwhile, secured three points against visitors Bathinda on the basis of their first innings lead of 151 runs on the rain curtailed second day’s play at IS Bindra PCA Stadium.    Resuming at overnight 134/2, Mohali declared their innings closed at 254/8.

Mayank Sidhu, who was batting on 23 yesterday, was the first one to go this morning — caught by Gurpreet off Sukhmander on 40.

Taranpreet Singh could only add 14 runs to his overnight tally before he was dismissed by Sukhmander on 61.

The side lost their next four wickets, including Gurkeerat Mann, for 50 runs to slump to 231/8. Ramandeep made an unbeaten 52, while Jassinder Singh remained not out on 14 as the side finally decided to declare their innings closed on 254.  Bathinda, in their second innings, were struggling on 72/4 when rain forced the umpires to call off the match.

Patiala garner 3 points

At Dhruv Pandove Stadium, hosts Patiala were awarded three points on the basis of a slender 23-run first innings lead against Ludhiana after the second day’s play was washed off due to rain.

Ludhiana were bowled out for 131 runs in their first innings after being asked to bat. Patiala, in reply, made 154 runs. — TNS
