Changes in sabbatical leave rules for teachers to be discussed

The Senate will discuss the sabbatical leave benefit to teachers who have less than three years of service. But now those who have less than three years of service but more than one year of service before superannuation could get "sabbatical leave up to six months".

But a rider has been proposed. In case of sabbatical leave now, "the plan of work/programme should be submitted only to academic/administrative committees of the department concerned". After approval, the case will be put up before the VC, and then it be referred to the Leave Cases Committee. There is no change in rest of the regulations for sabbatical leave.

Changes in criteria of law degrees

Now, for two-year LLM, 55 per cent marks in LLB are required for admission for general category and 50 per cent for SCs/STs/BCs. Earlier, there was no such requirement. However, 55 per cent in LLB was criteria for admission to one-year LLM.

Earlier, in LLB re-appear exams, students could appear in all semester examinations in November as well as May each year. However, now, in November, odd semester examinations (regular and re-appear), for first, third and fifth semesters, will be held. And in May, even semester exams (regular and re-appear), for second, fourth and sixth semesters, will be held.

The name of BA (Hons) BEd-Four Year Integrated Course will be changed to Four-Year Integrated Programme BA BEd.

CBCS for colleges

The Choice-Based Credit System (CBCS) will be implemented in colleges from 2018-19. The Senate is likely to approve the agenda item on January 21. It will be implemented for BA/BA (Hons), BSc/BSc (Hons) and BCom/ BCom (Hons) and BBA.

As per the UGC, the CBCS provides an opportunity for students to choose courses from the prescribed courses comprising core, elective, minor or skill-based courses. The courses can be evaluated following the grading system, which is considered to be better than the conventional marks system. The uniform grading system will also enable potential employers in assessing the performance of the candidates.

The CBCS allows students to choose inter-disciplinary, intra-disciplinary courses and skill-oriented papers even from other disciplines according to their learning needs, interests and aptitude.
