Chargesheet filed in gang rape case

Chandigarh, February 21

The UT police today filed a 372-page challan in the court in the case of 22-year-old girl who was gang-raped in the forest area of Sector 53 on November 17 last year.

The police submitted the challan 89 days after the accused — Irfan, Mohammad Garib and Kismat Ali — were arrested. The trio was charged under Sections 376D and 506 of the IPC. However, the FIR had also included Section 376 (2) (g). The investigating officer said Section 376D pertained to all offences committed in this case and thus, there was no need for Section 376 (2) (g).

The police have named 25 witnesses in the challan and included the medical report of the victim in the evidence.

The next date of hearing in the case has been scheduled for March 1. — TNS
