Chandigarh, May 21

In yet another warning to the Chandigarh Housing Board allotteees, the board has again warned of penalty and action under the relevant rules against those who are raising construction without permission.

A few days ago, the CHB had announced that it would empower its junior engineers and subdivisional officers (SDO) to issue on-the-spot challans to the allottees who were making illegal additions and alterations in their flats. The field staff was being issued challan books.

The warning by the CHB authorities comes within days of the CHB giving a number of waivers of the allottees, including withholding the process of issuing show-cause notices for building violations related to need-based changes till the time the policy on need-based changes is finalised by the board and de-linking transfer of property with the issuer of the building violations.

The violations are generally been done by the allottees by extending the already allotted and planned property, thereby destroying the urban fabric. It has come to notice that some of the allottees/occupants are indulging in illegal constructions in their dwelling units and also encroaching upon the government land resulting in breach of terms and conditions of allotment and violating the rules and regulations under the Provisions of Capital of Punjab (Development & Regulation) Act, 1952 and the Haryana Housing Board Act, 1971 (as extended to the UT of Chandigarh) and other acts/rules/byelaws applicable from time to time.
