City achieves Aadhaar saturation

CHANDIGARH: Chandigarh has achieved the distinction of being the first UT (without legislation) in the country to attain the universal Aadhaar saturation.

Chandigarh has achieved the distinction of being the first UT (without legislation) in the country to attain the universal Aadhaar saturation. As against the estimated population of 11,15,584 in 2015, 11,15,817 residents have acquired Aadhaar cards. The population of Chandigarh as per the 2011 Census is 10,54,686. With this, Chandigarh has become the first UT (without legislation) in the country to achieve 100 per cent Aadhaar saturation. Delhi, Telangana, Haryana and Punjab are other states that have achieved the target .

Ram Subhag Singh, Deputy Director General, Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), said the feat was possible due to joint efforts of the UIDAI and a team UT officials, led by UT Adviser Parimal Rai.

Chandigarh is also the first UT in the country to link birth certificates with Aadhaar cards. The programme was launched on August 2 this year by Punjab Governor and UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore.
