Chandigarh Mayor Davesh Moudgil and Municipal Commissioner KK Yadav on Saturday received the Swachh Survekshan-2018 award from Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a function held in Indore, Madhya Pradesh.

Chandigarh bagged 3rd cleanest city award in the Swachh Survekshan-2018. The Mayor said he alone had not received the award but all residents of the city received this award. He thanked the residents of the City Beautiful for their efforts to keep the city clean. With their efforts only, Chandigarh was ranked the 3rd cleanest city in the Swachh Survekshan-2018.

The Mayor congratulated the city residents, councillors of MC, Chandigarh Business Council, Beopar Mandal, Chandigarh, RWAs, Market Welfare Associations, officers & employees of the MC, especially safaikaramcharis, for achieving the 3rd cleanest city position in the Swachh Survekshan-2018.

He said next time everyone would have to put their efforts to make Chandigarh No 1 in the Swachh Survekshan. The Swachh Survekshan-2018, which was organised by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, under the aegis of Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban), assessed 4,203 urban local bodies.

He said the exercise undertaken between January 4 and March 10, 2018, enhanced the scope to cover a record number of ULBs impacting around 40 crore urban citizens across the country by 2,700 assessors. He said compared to the previous surveys, this year’s exercise allocated substantial weightage to the feedback from citizens.

While sharing the information about marks secured in different segments, the Mayor said there were a total of 4,000 marks for different sections such as service-level progress data provided by municipal body (1,400 marks); independent validation based on data provided by municipal body (negative marking); direct observation data collection through direct observation (1,200 marks) and collection of direct citizen feedback (1,400 marks). The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation secured 3,649 marks in all segments.
