MOHALI:Apparently unable to bear the exam pressure, a 17-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide by taking poison at her residence in Mullanpur here today.

Apparently unable to bear the exam pressure, a 17-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide by taking poison at her residence in Mullanpur here today. 

The victim has been identified as Preeti, a Class X student at Government Model Senior Secondary School at Dhanas. Inspector Ravinder Pal Singh, SHO of the  Mullanpur police station, said after returning from her tuition classes, Preeti had her meals and went to her room where she took poison. She was rushed to Government Multi-Specialty Hospital, Sector 16, Chandigarh, where she was declared brought dead.

According to the SHO, the victim’s father told the police that his daughter was under pressure due to her exams as she was not good in studies.

After recording the statements of the victim’s kin, the police have initiated inquest proceedings  under Section 174 of the the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC ). —TNS
