A student of Class X was nabbed along with two youths for selling drugs to a boy near the Majri chowk here this morning.

The Class X student is a resident of Baltana. He is pursuing his studies from National Open School after being rusticated from a school based in Baltana two years ago.

The other two accused, Gurpreet, who is pursuing his BA (second year) from Kurukshetra University through correspondence, is a resident of Abhaypur and Sumit, 22, who works as a caterer, is a resident of Sector 4, Panchkula.

The police have recovered 300 grams of ‘sulfa’ from the Class X student. The student told the police that the contraband was bought from a Chandigarh-based man, Kamal, for Rs 30,000. Kamal, who fled the scene on seeing the police, was carrying 700 grams of contraband, he said.

“This morning, the Class X student left his home on the pretext of playing cricket with his friend Gurpreet. Actually, both were going to pick up their friend, Sumit, as they had to deliver the contraband to a boy at the Majri chowk and receive payment from him. Their friend, Kamal, was also coming with 700 grams of contraband at the same spot,” said a police official. The police have also impounded the bike.

“The boy, to whom the delivery was to be made, and Kamal fled the spot on seeing a police team. The Class X student had tucked the contraband in his belt,” said another police official.

Earlier, the police had arrested three drug peddlers for selling drugs to school students.

Commissioner of Police (CP) OP Singh directed the Panchkula DCP to ask all school principals to inform the police if they suspected anyone in their area to be dealing in drugs.

Desire to be stronger pushed him into drugs

It was the desire to be “stronger” than others that forced the student enter the world of drugs. He was first provided with “sulfa” by his friend, Gurpreet.

Was caught carrying drugs in tiffin box at school

The Class X student, who was held with 300 grams of contraband, had been rusticated from his school when a teacher found drug tablets in his tiffin box. Talking to Chandigarh Tribune, the director of the school, said: “He studied in Class VII at our school. He would often misbehave with his teachers and flunk all exams. One day, his teacher caught him hiding something in his bag. The teacher searched the bag and was shocked to find drug ‘tablets’ in the tiffin box. The student’s father, who runs a shop in Baltana, was called and informed about the incident.”

Father’s dream shattered

World came crashing down for his father, who thought his son would become a cricketer one day. The student would often leave home saying that he was going to play cricket. His father was shocked when he got a call by the police that his son had been held for drug trafficking.
