Chandigarh, September 16
The cleanliness drive carried out by the Government Medical College and Hospital in Sector 32 here yesterday turned out to be a mere photo opportunity as garbage and medical waste continues to dot the hospital.
Garbage and debris of the construction material was scattered all around the hospital. Cotton and cloth bandage were strewn all over the place outside the Block D of the hospital. Besides, wild growth and accumulated water have become a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
At several places, patients’ kin were seen throwing disposable plates and glasses in the open after eating food. To top it all, they were also seen washing and drying clothes in the open.
The condition of the corridor was equally appalling as debris of the construction material was scattered all over the place.
Yesterday, Director-Principal of the GMCH-32 AK Janmeja and Medical Superintendent Ravi Gupta had carried out a cleanliness drive and pledged to maintain cleanliness. While premises inside the hospital remained cleaner today, the surroundings of the hospital were dotted with disposable plates and glasses. — TNS
