CHANDIGARH:A two-day CME programme on Luminal Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy begins, here on Saturday.



Chandigarh, March 31

A two-day CME programme on Luminal Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy begins, here on Saturday. The CME is began held by the Department of Gastroenterology, PGI.

The highlight of the day was the evening session by Prof SK Yachha from SGPGI, Lucknow, where he talked about the journey of pediatric gastroenterology from a nascent branch to a full-fledged super-specialty in India.

Dr Sandeep Lakhtakia enlightened the gathering about the management options for large and difficult bile duct stones.

Another common problem witnessed in the region, which received attention in the conference, was celiac disease, commonly known as wheat or gluten allergy. Prof Govind Makharia talked about the challenges of this condition in Indian patients and informed that 1.4 per cent of global population suffers from the disease.

Prof Vineet Ahuja from AIIMS, Delhi, conducted a panel discussion on the management of patients suffering from severe form of ulcerative colitis. 

The session was in honour of Prof Babu Ram Thapa who superannuated on Saturday from the institute after more than three decades of exemplary service to the institute. — TNS
