College celebrates anniversary

Patiala: Multani Mal Modi College, Patiala, organised a havan yajna on the concluding day of the week-long celebrations of the 142st Modi Jayanti.



Patiala: Multani Mal Modi College, Patiala, organised a havan yajna on the concluding day of the week-long celebrations of the 142st Modi Jayanti. Principal Khushvinder Kumar shared the philanthropic vision of the Modi Education Society on the 51th anniversary of the college and its contribution in bringing quality education within the reach of the public at large. The college organised Inter-Institutional Science Fair-2017 in which 230 students from 20 schools and eight colleges participated. An essay writing competition was also organised in which around 100 students of the college participated in English, Hindi and Punjabi languages. In English section, Jaspreet Singh won the first prize, Pahul PK Sandhu got the second position and Sukhneet Kaur was third. In Hindi section, Sakshi got the first position, Ashita got second and Karan Sukhwal bagged the third position, while in Punjabi, Amanpreet Kaur got the first position, Gagandeep Kaur got second and Birpal Kaur and Parminder Kaur shared the third prize. The topics for essay writing competition were ‘Clean environment and citizen’s role’, ‘Role of literature in personality development’, ‘Craze for settling abroad among youth’.  OC

Charity run for students 

The British Co-Ed High School, Patiala, organised a charity run for students of Classes VII to XII on the school premises. School principal Kiran Harika flagged off the 500-m run. The objective of the run was to raise funds for students of Deaf and Dumb School, Patiala. An inter-house English debate competition for the high school students. The competition was organised to promote public speaking skills. The topic for the debate was ‘The only war worth fighting is the war on poverty’. The debate was judged by the founder Principal, Rosa Kucharskyj. Students gave strong arguments for the motion, emphasising that poverty was like a tree which develops into branches of bigger problems. Debaters stated that it was more important to focus on educating people, maintaining civil infrastructure and dispensing justice, than eradicating poverty. The Tolstoy house bagged the first position, Teresa house stood second and Tagore house was third. Arjun Guram of Class X-R was declared the best speaker. The principal congratulated the winners and encouraged students to improve their communication skills. OC

150 take part in MUN-2017

With a vision and mission to provide a platform to future leaders of the nation as well as the world, Bhupindra International Public School (BIPS), Patiala, organised MUN-2017 at the national level. Around 150 students participated from prestigious institutions in Patiala, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, Bathinda and other places. UNGA, UNHRC, ECOSOC and AIPPM were the four committees of MUN. The students raised motions and debated diplomatically on the topics such as, ‘Discussing the illicit trade of small arms and light weapons, analysing the debate of growing intolerance in India in the light of recent events and analysing Indian foreign policy with emphasis on Indo-Sino-Pak triangle. The students stepped into the shoes of various leaders of the world and tried to come upon a consensus for a universal solution. Indu Sharma, Principal, BIPS, appreciated the students for their efforts and said along with providing city and district toppers in academics and national and international sportspersons, BIPS grooms them to personally experience the current scenario of global issues and enhance their thinking skill by finding out solutions to them.
