As many as five youth sustained burn injuries, two critical, in a LPG cylinder blast at Shahi Majra village last night.

The victims have been identified as Varinder from Hamirpur, Sandeep from Patiala, Ashish from Una, Sandeep and Prateek from Himachal Pradesh. Two youths (one from Patiala and another from Himachal Pradesh) have sustained serious injuries and have been referred to the PGI, Chandigarh, while the rest three have been admitted to the Civil Hospital, Phase VI, here.

Sandeep from Patiala fell from the fourth floor following the blast. His condition is said to be critical.

According to sources, all victims were residing in a room at the fourth floor of a five-storeyed house in the village.

The victims were preparing food at around 12.30 am when the incident took place. Due to the impact of the blast, windowpanes of the house were smashed. Two fire tenders were rushed to the spot, but these could not enter the narrow streets of the village.

The injured persons were shifted to the Civil Hospital by residents of the area.

Meanwhile, another incident of cylinder blast took place at around 11.30 am today in a canteen of an IT company in the Industrial Area, Phase 8, here. However, nobody sustained injuries in the incident.
