After the UT Administration started pumping water into Sukhna Lake, the water level in the lake has risen.

A senior official of the UT Administration said on January 17, when MP Kirron Kher started the project to pump water through tubewells into the lake, the water level at Sukhna was 1154.10 feet, which has now increased to 1154.40 feet. Besides the tubewell supply, there was good rainfall which also helped in increasing the water level of the lake, he said.

The Administration will pump the water till March end at a cost of Rs 45 lakh. The water level is expected to rise by three foot by the end of March.

In all, the UT Administration is feeding water drawn from seven tubewells which remain dormant during the winter season in to Sukhna. The Engineering wing of the Chandigarh Administration using a 450 m pipeline to divert 2 million gallons of water per day to the lake from seven tubewells located near the Chandigarh Golf Club.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court had ordered Haryana, Punjab and the UT Administration to come up with a solution for the scarcity of the water in the lake during the summer season.
