Artillery corps celebrates 188th Raising Day

CHANDIGARH: The Regiment of Artillery celebrated its 188th Gunners Day at Chandimandir Military Station today.

Chandigarh, September 28

The Regiment of Artillery celebrated its 188th Gunners Day at Chandimandir Military Station today. A wreath-laying ceremony was held at the Veer Smriti War Memorial to pay homage to the martyrs of the regiment.

The day commemorates the raising of the first artillery in India, Bombay Battery, on September 28, 1827. Ever since the concept of causing destruction to the enemy’s war machine from a standoff distance evolved in warfare, Artillery has been a major battle winning arm and its importance continues in the modern day battlefield.

The Regiment is in a rapid phase of transition with the planned acquisition of a plethora of modern equipment. It has consistently performed well in all roles assigned, be it in active operations across the entire spectrum of modern day conflict, on international sports field or any other sphere of activity. — TNS
