CSIO’s electrostatic nozzle to be produced commercially

The Central Scientific Instruments Organisation (CSIO), Chandigarh, today transferred the technology to manufacture ‘Air-Assisted Electrostatic Sprayer’ to the private industry for commercial production and marketing.

The sprayer releases controlled amount of fluid, thereby cutting down on the quantity of pesticides and other harmful chemical sprays.

According to CSIO scientists, there is a pressing need for application of new chemical sprayers for pesticides spraying on crops, orchards and trees. To meet this requirement, a new low-cost air-assisted electrostatic nozzle has been designed and developed, especially for the rural agricultural sector.

This nozzle is a lightweight, highly efficient device, which is eco-friendly and reduces pesticide use and human health risk. The air-assisted electrostatic nozzle is a combination of an air-assisted nozzle and induction-based electrostatic charging system.

The technology transfer documents were signed by Dr Amod Kumar, Chief Scientist and Head, Business Initiatives and Project Planning CSIO, and Jagat Jit Singh, Managing Director, Jagatsukh Industries, Ludhiana, which will be manufacturing the nozzle. CSIO Director Prof RK Sinha was also present on the occasion.

The Centre of Excellence for Farm Machinery in the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research and Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, are participating institutions in the project.
