Chandigarh, February 19

Cultural function, performances and competitions marked the concluding day of the three-day Chandigarh Rose Festival at Rose Garden, Sector 16, here. The Tribune was the media partner of the three-day event.

Mayor Asha Jaswal was the chief guest, while Councillor Vinod Aggarwal and mali Karnail Singh were the guests of honour on the occasion.

Mayor Asha Jaswal and Commissioner B Purushartha distributed prizes among the winners of various competitions, participants of cultural events, band parties and gardeners.

The Mayor lauded the efforts of all teams of officers in making the Rose Festival a success. Joint Commissioner Shilpy Pattar Dutt, area councillor Ravi Kant Sharma, MC Chief Engineer NP Sharma, other councillors and all senior officers were present during the prize distribution function.

On the third day, a musical evening titled “Bollywood Evening” was organised by the Municipal Corporation at the Rose Garden. During the musical evening, Bollywood singer Alamgir Khan sang songs with orchestra while musical band enthralled the visitors with its performance during a live band show. Singers sung Hindi as well Punjabi songs on the occasion. During the day, various competitions, including antakshari and on-the-spot painting competitions, were held. —TNS

326 people enjoy chopper ride on last day

Chandigarh: As many as 326 people enjoyed chopper ride on the last day of the Rose Festival here on Sunday. It remained a hit on all three days of the festival as people from the tricity and the nearby areas came to enjoy the ride. Col Anil Raj, CEO of Green Hawk Air Private Limited, which provided the helicopter ride, said due to lack of time they could not accommodate around 150 persons who wanted to enjoy chopper ride on Sunday. The Chandigarh MC hired the firm, which provided ride for Rs 3,500 per person. Two helicopters were kept for flying at a height of 600ft to 700ft. The seven-minute ride included Sector 17 Parade Ground to Sukhna Lake to Rose Garden and then back to Sector 17. While children were most excited about the ride, women and senior citizens were also lined up for the same. Around 222 persons enjoyed the ride on Saturday.
