Deadly sting: 54 fresh cases of dengue, 17 of chikungunya reported from tricity

CHANDIGARH: As many as 54 fresh cases of dengue were reported from the tricity and surrounding areas today, including 17 from Mohali district, 28 from Chandigarh and nine from Panchkula.

As many as 54 fresh cases of dengue were reported from the tricity and surrounding areas today, including 17 from Mohali district, 28 from Chandigarh and nine from Panchkula. The total number of dengue cases reported from the Tricity and surrounding areas have reached 2,102.

Besides, 17 fresh cases of chikungunya were reported from the tricity and surrounding areas, including three from Mohali district, 10 from Chandigarh and four from Panchkula.

Meanwhile, taking a serious note of calls received on the dengue helpline number, the malaria wing of the UT Health Department has stepped up surveillance in the city under which special drives are being conducted across the city. House-to-house visits are being made, fogging is being done and challans and notices are being issued.

Dr Gaurav Aggarwal, anti-malaria officer, UT, said it was observed that despite repeated notices to the public, coolers and containers are not cleaned. Littering of garbage by people was posing a potential threat for growth of mosquitoes.
