Dealers face slump in sales at new car bazaar venue

Following the directions of the court, the car bazaar was held at Hallo Majra today. It was done on a trial basis amidst the protest and opposition of car dealers who rued the lack of facilities at the new site.

Gulson Kumar, president of the car bazaar association, said while agreed to hold the bazaar at the new site on a trial basis, their experience was horrific.

The dealers claimed heavy losses as few cars were sold. They said the place lacked basic facilities like water and electricity and it was also unsafe. They said It was very tough to stand in the scorching heat. They did not have many customers throughout the day.

Suresh Kumar, another car dealer, said the site was not safe in view of the absence of the proper arrangements. He said most of their transactions were made in cash and carrying a big amount was risky. The residents of the area also opposed the bazaar, saying it would create nuisance in the locality.

Kumar added that they had been holding the bazaar at Sector 7 for the last 35 years, making it north India’s biggest second-hand car bazaar.

Notably, the dealers had proposed five other sites for holding the bazaar during a hearing in the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Friday. The decision to shift the venue was taken on the directions of the High Court.
