Dengue count continues to soar

CHANDIGARH: The number of dengue cases in the tricity and surrounding areas today touched 2,237 while that of chikungunya reached 189.

The number of dengue cases in the tricity and surrounding areas today touched 2,237 while that of chikungunya reached 189.

A total of 55 fresh cases of dengue were reported from the tricity and surrounding areas today.

As many as 43 fresh cases of dengue and two of chikungunya were reported from Mohali district while Chandigarh reported 12 fresh cases of dengue and six of chikungunya. Panchkula reported four fresh cases of chikungunya. No fresh case of dengue was reported from the town.

Meanwhile, health officials said to further strengthen the preventive activities, daily fumigation was being carried out along with strengthening of field activities, which includes mass awareness, checking of breeding sources like coolers, containers, tyres and other sources.
