Eminent doctors dwell on nanotechnology

Lectures by eminent doctors were organised at the PGIMER to motivate faculty, students to improve patient care and research.

Prof Amit Dinda from AIIMS, New Delhi, delivered a lecture on ‘Nanotechnology – its use in healthcare’. He described the use of nanotechnology in diagnosis, imaging, drug delivery and vaccine. “With the use of nanotechnology, it is possible to combine four drugs used in the anti-tubercular therapy in one capsule to improve patients’ compliance to therapy. Even some of the injectable vaccine may be modified for oral vaccine, he added.

Prof Subramaniam Iyer from Amrita University, who is a pioneer of hand transplant, delivered a lecture on ‘How to proceed with hand transplantations’. Amrita University under his leadership has undergone hand transplantation on two patients successfully for the first time in India. He narrated the story on how they worked as a team, identified the donor, performed transplantation, and rehabilitate the patients. — TNS
