Medical teachers seek immediate resignation of Dr KK Talwar

PATIALA:The Punjab State Medical & Dental Teachers Association has demanded immediate resignation of Dr KK Talwar, Health and Medical Education Advisor to Former Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, for his failure to guide the interests of medical and dental teachers during his tenure under the previous government.

The Punjab State Medical & Dental Teachers Association has demanded immediate resignation of Dr KK Talwar, Health and Medical Education Advisor to Former Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, for his failure to guide the interests of medical and dental teachers during his tenure under the previous government.

In a joint press statement, Dr HS Sohal, President; Dr DS Bhullar, General Secretary of the state unit; and Dr Avanish Kumar, president of the Patiala unit of the association said Dr Talwar had been misguiding the previous government on various issues related to medical education and medical faculty working in the state-run government medical and dental colleges.

“The Medical Education Department so far has failed to fill up more than 100 entry-level vacant posts of assistant professor due to his interference in the selection process,” they said.

The association has also demanded for a high-level probe for decision of the previous government on the advice of Dr Talwar to hand over the newly-constructed building of the Government Medical College and Rajindra Hospital for running the para-medical training courses silently to a private hospital, Max Hospital of Mohali. The building was constructed on the government land worth crores of rupees after demolishing some residential buildings meant for the faculty of the medical college despite the fact that the department of medical education could easily run training courses in this institute.

The association also congratulated Captain Amarinder Singh for the massive mandate in his favour in the recently held state Assembly elections. They pledged to work tirelessly and with full dedication under the newly-elected state government with a demand to appoint a regular principal of the college immediately according to seniority and in accordance with the guidelines of the Medical Council of India (MCI) to avoid any embarrassment later on during the MCI inspection.
