Nimann - help the needy, an NGO, initiated a special drive to donate shoes to the needy students. On Wednesday, the NGO members distributed as many as 100 pairs of shoes at Government School, Behru village, in Patiala. Gurbir Singh, Dinesh Thakur, Umesh Gupta, Gourav Kumar and Lav Jindal; all members of the NGO, were present on the occasion. 

Guidance programme

TAn orientation and guidance programme was organised at Shivalik Public School, Patiala, to guide students to modify and channelise their energy in a constructive manner. The resource person was Dr Aayeena Sood, MBBS, DGO, a profound gynecologist. She discussed all myths, misconceptions, problems and best solutions, along with home remedies, to these problems with the students in a friendly way. The most interesting moments of the session were marked when she emphasised on the importance of physical activity and participation in sports and games.

Shakespeare Week 

To commemorate the birth and death anniversary of the greatest poet and the most-celebrated playwright, 'William Shakespeare', a series of activities were organised in a week-long celebration. As many as 500 students participated enthusiastically in diverse English activities. Principal SR Prabhakar lauded the efforts of faculty members of the English Department for organising such event. While highlighting his unmatchable contribution, the Principal said though Shakespeare himself wasn't a university graduate in English, none could become a university graduate in English without reading him.

Special assembly

A special assembly was organised by the health and wellness club at Police DAV Public School, Dadhera. A short-play based on food wastage was performed by students of the health and wellness club. The annual food wastage was shown to the students through different charts. Various methods to reduce the food wastage were shown through the activity. The students were motivated to reduce the food wastage to conserve the food resources. Principal Meena Thapar complemented the efforts and concern shown by the students under the able guidance of their mentor, Monika Sharma. 

Seminar organised

The Political Science Society at University College, Ghanaur, organised a seminar on "Thinking about Caste." Papers were presented by nine students of the college. Dr Raj Kumar, retired Professor from the Department of History of Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, presided over the event. The chief guest on the occasion was Desraj Kalia, distinguished writer, publisher and historian, and Dr Surjit Singh from Punjabi University was the guest of honour. All nine papers comprehensively covered a diverse range of perspectives on Dalits and their existential conditions. 

Academic tour

A one-day academic tour of Khalsa College, Patiala, was organised to Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, Solan. Students of BSc Agriculture, BVoc Agriculture and BSc Medical visited various spots on the university campus. Dr YC Gupta, training and visit officer, made the students aware about the history, extension work of university and various research programmes being run by the institution. Dr Pooja Sharma, Assistant Professor of Floriculture, gave students valuable information about different floral crops grown in poly-houses and in open conditions. Khalsa College Principal Dharminder Singh Ubha said such educational visits proved to be significant for imparting practical knowledge to the students. OC
