Panchkula, April 26

A delegation of the resident’s welfare associations of the city, along with the citizen’s welfare association, held a silent protest outside the Municipal Corporation office in Sector 14 here this morning.

Representatives of 10 RWAs, along with the chairman-cum-president, Action Committee, Citizens’ Welfare Association, SK Nayar, wore black ribbons on their sleeves. They demanded that the Haryana Government and the MC work together on development works.

They submitted a memorandum to Mayor Upinder Kaur Ahluwalia, which was addressed to Kavita Jain, Minister of Urban Local Bodies, Haryana. A copy of the memorandum was also submitted to the Personal Secretary of Commissioner Lalit Siwach in the absence of the latter. The memorandum lists various problems being faced by the residents.

The reason behind the lack of development works being done according to the letter is the infighting among the Mayor and officials of the MC. The letter asks the state government why it does not provide the MC with enough staff to carry out its day-to-day duties. The letter asks the MC and the government to work together and form separate municipal councils for Kalka and Pinjore.
