PATIALA:‘A people’s relationship to their heritage is the same as the relationship of a child to its mother’ goes a famous saying.

Patiala, September 23

‘A people’s relationship to their heritage is the same as the relationship of a child to its mother’ goes a famous saying. With this in mind, Patiala Foundation, an NGO, in association with GoUNESCO has decided to host a “make heritage fun” event here on September 25 to relive, rediscover and explore the heritage of Patiala.

The walk, open for all city residents, will start at 6.30 am from Shahi Samadhan, Patiala, and end at Qila Mubarak. It will also have various other fun events such as selfie contest and Patiala heritage hunt (an online mobile game). The event has been planned to make present generation aware of the rich heritage of the royal city.

“Make Heritage Fun campaign is a distributed series of events and social media campaigns occurring simultaneously at cities around the world to draw attention to heritage. This initiative by GoUNESCO is yet another way for laypersons to engage with heritage. Experiences from across the world will be collated and amplified through social media using the #makeheritagefun,” said Rave S Ahluwalia, chief functionary of Patiala Foundation. “We are more than overjoyed to invite everyone from Patiala and the surrounding areas to participate and share their experience of the heritage with the people around the world,” he said.

Other foundation members said usually people try to be critical of the shortcomings during such walks and the neglect of the rich heritage. However, they forget that heritage can be prevented only if all people, irrespective of their interests, participate.

The walk will start from Shahi Samadhan - cenotaphs of the members of the Patiala royal family - and pass through Chhata Nanumal, Bartan Bazaar, Jain School, Haveliwala Mohalla, Darshani Deodhi and end at Qila Mubarak. — TNS
