Work of sterilising stray dogs in Mohali has come to a halt over the past two months with the authorities concerned failing to give clearance to the charges proposed by the Municipal Corporation in this regard.

Stating this here today, Municipal Councillor Kuljit Singh Bedi said he had written a letter to the Commissioner in this connection seeking remedial measures to tackle the problem of the rising number of stray dogs.

He said the sterilisation work had stopped in January. Last year, the corporation had sterilised 1,154 stray dogs. No resolution could be passed at a meeting of the General House of the corporation on the stray dog menace.

Bedi said the civic body had proposed certain charges for sterilising each dog to the Department of Local Government. However, the department failed to give approval to the proposal and asked the corporation to get clearance from the Department of Animal Husbandry, Punjab, which raised objections to the proposal of the civic body.
