Chandigarh, June 5
Two days after a lawyer opened fire into the air in the parking lot of the GMCH-32 here, the complainant in the case staged a protest at the Sector 34 police station. He demanded that the accused should be booked in a case of attempt to murder.
The police had registered a case under Section 336 (act endangering the life and personal safety of others) of the IPC and under Sections 25, 27 and 59 of the Arms Act. However, the complainant, Amandeep Singh, demanded that Section 307 (attempt to murder) should be added to the case.
Gagandeep Singh (32), who is an advocate, had opened fire into the air following an altercation between two families.
Gurjinder Kaur, a resident of Banur, was admitted to the hospital on May 30 and she succumbed to her injuries on June 3 late evening. Before the victim’s death, her in-laws had told her family that she had met with an accident while riding pillion on a motorcycle. However, her family doubted the story.
On June 3, both families entered into an argument at the hospital parking. The lawyer, who is known to Gurjinder Kaur’s in-laws, then opened fire into the air.
Gurjinder’s brother Amandeep Singh alleged that the gunshot was fired on him following which a case of attempt to murder should be registered.
“I also want that two persons, including a woman, who provoked Gagandeep Singh to open the fire, should also be booked in the case”, he said.
There was a dispute between both families and the matter was under investigation at the Banur police station.
