BJP and Congress councillors exchanged heated arguments over the water crisis in the city during the MC House meeting here on Thursday.

While Congress councillors left no stone unturned to corner councillors of the ruling BJP on the issue, the latter blamed the MC officials for the problem, claiming that they failed to provide water supply to the city residents. The BJP also slammed the Congress for not bringing any project to improve water supply in the city when it was at the helms of the MC affairs.

Placing two bottles of contaminated water on the tables of Mayor Davesh Moudgil and Commissioner KK Yadav, BJP councillor Chanderwati Shukla alleged that MC officials were not addressing the problem that residents of Sector 52, falling her ward, were facing for the past 15 days.

At this, Congress councillor and Leader of Opposition Devinder Singh Babla accused the BJP of not supplying water to city residents.

He said there was not a single sector in the city that was not facing water shortage. Babla alleged that the MC was not taking the water crisis seriously. He also supported the issue highlighted by Shukla.

BJP councillor Bharat Kumar highlighted that residents of Deep Complex, Hallo Majra, were issued inflated water bills. Councillor Dalip Sharma raised the issue of water crisis in Bapu Dham Colony.

Water not reaching upper floors

City residents continued to face water shortage on Thursday. The worst-hit were those living in southern sectors. Water supply was not reaching upper floors in the sectors. Residents of Barrier Colony, Raipur Khurd, said they were not getting water supply for the past 10 days. They said while they were paying bills regularly, they were bereft of water. Sector 45 residents complained that taps ran dry on upper floors. Sector 37 residents had a similar grouse.
