The Mohali police arrested a constable of the Punjab Police on a charge of raping his 13-year-old daughter here today.
The accused, identified as Ajit Singh, had allegedly been raping his daughter for the past one year. His wife had died around four years ago.
In her complaint, the victim, a student of Class VIII, alleged that her father also used to beat her up.
Giving details, Inspector Kulbir Singh Sandhu said Ajit Singh also raped the victim last night. “When she resisted, he beat her up with a bat,” said Inspector Kulbir Singh.
The matter came to light when the victim managed to call up her maternal aunt (massi) and narrated her trauma. “Her aunt called up the Police Control Room following which the police reached their house,” said Inspector Kulbir Singh.
A case under Sections 376, 323 and 506 of the IPC and Section 4 of the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act has been registered against Ajit Singh, who was posted at the Police Headquarters in Chandigarh.
The accused will be produced in court tomorrow.
