The Special Task Force has arrested four drug peddlers, including a UT constable, and has recovered 2.04-quintal poppy husk and Rs 1.18 lakh as drug money from their possession here.
The accused have been identified as Constable Vikram Singh, a resident of Nayagoan, Balwinder Singh of Bindrakh village, Ropar, and Mandeep Singh and Sohan Singh, both residents of Zirakpur.The police said the accused had been supplying poppy husk to local clients since Diwali last year.
“Vikram Singh used to spend money while Mandeep Singh and Sohan Singh transported the contraband in their trucks for which they used to get Rs 30,000 per round.
Balwinder Singh, who ran a small-time grocery shop at Bindrakh village, used to sell the narcotics to local persons and drivers,” said the police.
Balwinder Singh is already facing two cases, registered in 2014 and 2016 under the NDPS Act. He has also been convicted in a case, said the police.
A case has been registered under Sections 15, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act against the four at the STF police station, Phase IV, here.
