Cop caught taking bribe of Rs 10,000

CHANDIGARH:CBI sleuths today arrested a Head Constable of the Chandigarh Police, posted at the Sarangpur police station, while allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a woman, who was named in an FIR of voluntarily causing grievous hurt.

CBI sleuths today arrested a Head Constable of the Chandigarh Police, posted at the Sarangpur police station, while allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a woman, who was named in an FIR of voluntarily causing grievous hurt. 

The accused has been identified as Ram Kumar. Sources said the accused was taking the bribe for not taking any action against the woman, whose husband, Shiv Nath, has already been arrested in the case. The complainant and her husband were booked for assaulting their relative Guru Narain on March 3. The FIR was registered at the Sarangpur police station and the investigation was being conducted by Ram Kumar.

The sources said the accused had demanded Rs 18,000, but later the deal was struck for Rs 10,000. The policeman was caught from a residential area in Sarangpur and the bribe money recovered from him.  —  TNS
