Cop, wife die in road mishap

PANCHKULA: A newly promoted head constable and his wife died in a road mishap last night on the NH-73 near the Moginand Police Lines.

A newly promoted head constable and his wife died in a road mishap last night on the NH-73 near the Moginand Police Lines. Only two days ago, Balkar Singh (32) had returned from Madhuban after six months of training.

Sources said the incident took place when he was returning on his motorcycle from a private hospital where he had taken his wife, Suman (28), to visit a doctor. His bike skidded due to a pothole on the road. A truck coming from behind knocked the bike down and sped away. Right behind him, his brother-in-law was coming on another mobike. He immediately informed the police. The two were taken to Civil Hospital, Sector 6, where they were declared brought dead. The couple was survived by a five-year-old girl.

The police have registered a case against the truck driver and was trying to trace the fleeing driver till the filing of the report.
