The UT Police had to use water cannons to stop protesting BJYM workers from marching towards the Congress Bhawan at the Sector 34/35 light point today.

The youths were protesting against the “derogatory and abusive” statements made by Congress leaders Manish Tewari and Digvijay Singh on Twitter against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

BJYM state president Gaurav Goel told Chandigarh Tribune, “We today held a protest and mourning procession against the shameful comments made by the Congress leaders. With 25 earthen pots, we performed the pind daan of the two leaders and the party. We immersed them in gutter and later broke the pots.”

Goel said they were marching towards the Congress Bhawan, but the police used water cannons. “We did not leave the place even after that. But as we did not want to disturb the law and order situation, we made a move.”

He said three to four workers, including Abhinav Sharma, Narender Lubana and Yajjur Sood, suffered minor injuries during the protest.
