Kingfisher Airlines to pay Rs 30,000

Finding Kingfisher Airlines grossly deficient of services, the UT Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum has directed the airline to pay Rs 20,000 compensation to the complainants and Rs 10,000 as litigation costs.

The airlines has also been directed to refund Rs 53,000 to the complainants, being the price of air tickets of the cancelled flight.

Dr Brij Gupta and his wife Prem Piari, filed a complaint against Kingfisher Airlines alleging that they got air tickets booked from Delhi to London for March 7, 2012,and return from London to Delhi for July 9, 2012.

The complainants said after booking of the tickets, when they were in England on April 10, 2012, they were informed by Kingfisher Airlines that it had stopped operations and bookings had been cancelled and the complainants were advised to apply for refund for unused portion of the tickets. The complainants immediately applied for refund and also purchased fresh tickets for return journey on April 13, 2012. However, despite sending a number of e-mails and visiting the office of the travel agent, no refund was made to the complainants.

No one from Kingfisher Airlines appeared before the forum to contest the claim of the complainants and was proceeded ex-parte.
