Panchkula, January 16

The police have arrested main accused, Chunnu, along with two other accused, in the murder of 22-year-old Baddi resident Deepak Kumar on January 1. Chunnu along with six others had killed Kumar after a fight broke out in a parking lot in Sector 5 after a new year’s party. The three have been sent to two-day police custody.

Four other accused were arrested by the police on January 8 and have been sent to judicial custody today. All accused are said to be residents of Mani Majra. Two groups had a quarrel at the party and came to the parking lot to take it further.

Deceased Deepak and his friend Arshad tried to intervene and Deepak punched accused Izhar, which led to a full blown fight. Chunnu then drew out a knife and stabbed Deepak and Arshad. Deepak died before he could reach the hospital while Arshad received a stab wound on his back. The murder weapon is yet to be recovered by the police.

Deepak worked at a car washing station in Baddi, which was owned by Arshad and the two along with some other friends had come to Panchkula for New Year’s party. The police informed that fathers of accused Izhar and Ajmal run separate sweetmeats shops in Mani Majra. Izhar owns a Ford Fusion car in which the accused fled after the accident. The police remand of the four is to end on Monday.
