Saketri murder: Accused sent to judicial custody

PANCHKULA: The main accused in the murder case of 26-year-old Varinder Singh Sandhu, who was killed on March 13 at Saketri, Ward No. 8 councillor’s son Manmeet Singh Waraich and his cousin Harmanpreet Singh have been sent to judicial custody by the court.

The main accused in the murder case of 26-year-old Varinder Singh Sandhu, who was killed on March 13 at Saketri, Ward No. 8 councillor’s son Manmeet Singh Waraich and his cousin Harmanpreet Singh have been sent to judicial custody by the court. The two were arrested on March 14 and were in police custody till now.

The other six accused are in police custody till Friday while one accused is still absconding. The police recovered the cars used in the crime but failed to recover the revolver used by Manmeet Singh.

According to sources, the accused had confessed to have the intention to murder Avtar and also confessed to have used a revolver.

Manmeet’s lawyer RS Chauhan said, “Manmeet is innocent but I will be able to comment only after the charge-sheet is presented by the police.”

 Victim’s family to hold candle march

  • The victim’s family has obtained permission from the Deputy Commissioner to hold a candle march for Varinder and seek justice for him on Friday. According to the letter, written by Varinder’s maternal uncle Nirmal Singh, the rally will be held on Friday and will start at 7 pm from the Shalimar roundabout in Sector 5 and end near Sector 18.
  • The letter states that over 500 people are expected to join the March. Nirmal Singh says, “We are unhappy with the police’s investigation and are making our own efforts to get justice for our son.” The DC while allowing the march has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police to ensure that the march stays peaceful and that no untoward incident takes place.
