Craft workshop at Snehalaya

Chandigarh: On the second day of the UN Universal Children’s Celebration Week, the Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights conducted a 'Best out of waste' craft workshop at Snehalaya, Maloya, Chandigarh, under the guidance of Gayatri, Art Faculty, Government College, Phase VI, Mohali. Children made beautiful articles from waste newspapers like rickshaw, cycle, helicopter, boat, ship, bike and turtle. Harjinder Kaur, Chairperson, CCPCR, appreciated the creativity of budding artists and promised to provide them chance for more such activities. TNS

Bhavan’s conference for principals 

Chandigarh: The four-day All-India Conference for Principals of Bhavan secondary and senior secondary schools concluded on Monday at Bhavan Vidyalaya, Sector 27-B, Chandigarh. The chief guest on the occasion was Suresh Kumar, Chief Principal Secretary to the Punjab Chief Minister. The conference with the theme, ‘Leaders-The catalysts of change’ was attended by 68 members, comprising senior education officers, senior principals and principals of the various Bhavans from all over the country. The conference witnessed speeches from eminent speakers from all walks of life. TNS

World Kindness Day 

Chandigarh: On World Kindness Day, as a joint initiative of the Independent Schools Association of Chandigarh, Peace Club of KB DAV Senior Secondary Public School, Sector 7-B, and Yuvsatta, an NGO, Mayor Asha Jaswal flagged off an Army truck with hundreds of new woollens for children and greeting cards for soldiers in Jammu and Kashmir. Jaswal addressed a gathering of students, teachers and heads of 25 prominent schools of the tricity of Chandigarh, Panchkula and SAS Nagar. They had contributed gifts promoting warmth of friendship, respect for others and above all, spirit of patriotism and one India which everybody aspires. TNS

Workshop on education ends

Chandigarh: A workshop on ‘Changing trends in education’ was held at Doon Public School, Sector 21, Panchkula, for teachers and students by Dr Raj Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Rayat Bahra University. Speaking on the occasion, he said teaching and learning had become digital today which could take many forms, including active learning, collaborative learning, gaming, simulations etc. "Digital learning offers students, data-rich online environment which is just a click away from them. They are able to work and articulate ideas in a group and are able to challenge each other's ideas which make learning more effective," he said. TNS

Legal literacy camp 

Chandigarh: A legal literacy camp on nation-wide outreach campaign, "Connecting to serve" was held at the New India Senior Secondary School, Sector 15, Panchkula. GP Bhanot, an advocate from District Courts of Panchkula, gave a lecture on different topics like fundamental rights, POCSO Act 2012, legal aid and registration of marriage etc. Over 200 students participated in the camp. The children were apprised of legal services, institutions and availability of free legal services. TNS

Students exhibit working models 

Chandigarh: Explorica 2017, an endeavour to hone the creativity, innovation and energy of the students was organised at Gem Public Senior Secondary School, Phase 3B-II, Mohali. Students exhibited working models of different subjects. There was a plethora of activities and competitions like creative writing, quiz, radio jockey, solo song and dance for the students. On the spot contests like mehendi, face painting and tattoo making were also organised. The visitors enjoyed the games and relished dishes  TNS

Annual day function 

Chandigarh: Indira Holiday Home School, Sector 24, organised its annual day function on the school premises. School principal Ravinder Kaur welcomed the guests and parents. The programme commenced with ‘Saraswati Vandana’ followed by rhymes on animals. The nursery class children got a big applause from the audience on the song, “Choona Hai Aasmaan”. TNS
