493 drug peddlers arrested in past 3 years: Mohali SSP

The Mohali police claimed to have arrested 493 drug peddlers in the past three years.

Sharing details, Mohali SSP Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said they had registered a total of 385 cases under various Sections of the NDPS Act in the past three years and recovered a huge quantity of drugs and banned medicines from the accused.

SSP Bhullar said the awareness drives and seminars, especially in the rural belt by the police, bore fruit in the direction of curbing the menace effectively in the district.

“We have conducted around 75 village-level public meetings under the special campaign to imbibe confidence of the people towards the police. The outcome has been positive and now people help us a lot in this direction,” said the SSP.

Bhullar said in 2014, the police had nabbed 256 drug peddlers and the number of arrested drug peddlers in 2015 was 191. “So far we have arrested 46 accused since January 1,” said the SSP.
